Plan the perfect weekend

After a week of staring at a computer for work all day, who wouldn’t want an epic weekend, some crazy adventure to give your life meaning again?

But here’s the thing: epic weekends don’t plan themselves. In fact quite a bit of thought goes into planning that epic weekend. So how exactly do you turn a normal mid month weekend into something special?

Here are a few tricks I use to get it right.

Plan ahead

Do a bit of research and booking, if need be, at least a week in advance, maybe 2. To plan a perfect epic weekend you will need to check out what’s happening in your area or city. Pick something you are actually interested in. There is no point joining a sunrise beach yoga class if you are not a morning person and don’t like yoga. Pick something you’ve been wanting to do for a while, something you can get excited about.

Check out all the details required for the activity. If you are planning a day at an art gallery find out when it’s open, if it’s even open over the weekends and how much the entry fee will be.

Plan one main activity for your perfect epic weekend

After a long stressful week you will feel very tired after your epic day, so plan to have one chilled day, either on the Saturday or Sunday. The last thing you want to do is push yourself to ‘have fun’ even when you are tired. You will end up not enjoying the day at all.

You will also find that if you plan one main activity for each day, instead of a whole bunch of activities for each day, you’ll be able to enjoy the activity and the day more.

Give yourself time to actually enjoy what you are doing. Epic doesn’t mean exhausting.

Chilled doesn’t mean boring

Even though you need one chilled day this doesn’t mean you need to sit at home doing nothing. For your chilled day plan something easy, but fun, like a visit to a market. Make sure you get out of the house. A trip to the beach, a movie or a lunch with friends is the perfect way to wind down a perfect epic weekend.

Plan meals ahead of time

You won’t have the time or energy to even think about meals or cooking during your epic weekend, so have sandwiches and snacks of fruit and veggies during the day and eat out for supper. Alternatively you can cook in bulk during the week and freeze leftovers so that you have an easy to prepare meal when you get back home during the weekend.

Be prepared for anything

If you are planning a hike, for example, take an extra change of normal clothes (as opposed to hiking clothes) along with you and keep it in the car. This way if you decide to go out for dinner afterwards you are better prepared. The key to planning a perfect epic weekend is flexibility.

Also, take along warm and cool clothes (depending on the season) just in case the weather changes. Being comfortable makes all the difference when you are trying to enjoy yourself.

You will also need to have a backup plan incase your original plan falls through. The weather might change and you won’t be able to go on the hike, or the museum might have unexpected renovations. Always have a back up plan even if it’s just to go watch a movie or eat out at a special restaurant. Again, pick something you’ll actually enjoy.

perfect epic weekend doesn’t just happen by accident. Careful thought and planning goes into every aspect of it. But if you follow these 5 tips then planning that perfect epic weekend becomes a whole lot easier.
